Other Workshops and Forums

May 25, NRFABCON joined partners NPWS, DPIE and NCLLS to host a field days for landholders in the Cougal area with Eastern Bristlebird habitat. Fire featured in the days activities.

Participants discovered how Lantana infested forest can be returned to native grassy habitat suitable for the Eastern Bristlebird. A small burn was demonstrated giving landholders hands on experience with managing cool mosaic-stlye burns.  NRFABCON explaind how partnership projects work and the opportunityies available for landholders to seek help. Oliver Costello delivered a presentation on Aboriginal fire practices and cultural pathways for healthy countries. RFS spoke on safe burining practices. Lantana Master spoke about preparing for fire using chemical treatment of lantana. It was a great day full of new information and experience.

Mid September 2019, NRFABCON with support from DPIE and NCLLS held a grassy habitats workshop for landholders in the upper Collins Creek area.

The elevated ranges surrounding Collins Creek were once home to the Eastern Bristlebird. With the re-introduction of appropriate burning regimes, grassy habitats in areas of open forest can be re-established and maintained for other grass-dependent species  that remain, including Hastings River Mouse and Powerful Owl.

In June 2018, NRFABCON hosted a Fire For Healthy Habitats Forum for Lismore City Council at two venues, Nimbin and Larnook.

The Fire For Healthy Habitats Forums are an introduction to using fire as a landscape management tool for sustaining the region's biodiversity. Featuring guest presenters, the forums look at where fire is appropriate and where it should be excluded and what tyype of fire is sustainable in terms of protecting and promoting the region's biodiversity values. The 2018 forums follow on from a series of forums around the region in 2016.
