About NRFABCON

Working together to promote sustainable fire management practices
NRFABCON is a network of individuals, organisations and other groups working together to deliver a coordinated, landscape approach to sustainable fire management practices in the Northern Rivers. Used wisely, fire will help sustain the rich biodiversity of our region.

Landholders, conservation professionals, agencies and organisations
In 2010, Stakeholders from across the Northern Rivers seeking a coordinated and landscape-level approach to fire management for biodiversity met to discuss formation of an independent body to consider state-wide fire management planning processes and gaps with respect to processes that address fire and biodiversity management.

As a result, the Northern Rivers Fire & Biodiversity Consortium was formed as an incorporated body with a governing committee comprising a President, Deputy President, Secretary/ Treasurer, Public Officer and member representatives. Our members and supporters include Local Government, Local Aboriginal organisations, Landowners, rural industries, environmental professionals, community groups, academic institutions, State government agencies .

We operate to a strategic plan which further defines the organisation's purpose and activities in the region. Membership is open to anyone with a genuine interest in ecologically sustainable fire management. Our meetings and field trips are open to the public to attend..

OUR SERVICES

MEETINGS
NRFABCON meets at least 3 times a year for General Meetings in the morning followed by an afternoon workshop or field visit in various locations around the region.

Events such as field days are conducted as opportunity arises between meetings. Our AGM is held in early December each year with election of officer bearers and annual reports presented by the President, Treasurer and Coordinator.

Annual memberships are renewed at this time and cost $10 per individual or organisation.
MEMBERS
Under our constitution, NRFABCON members can be individuals or organisations. A member will have an interest in fire and biodiversity and wish to contribute to achieving the objectives of NRFABCON.

In addition we welcome supporters, those who prefer non-membership, to our meetings and any other stakeholders or interested parties to our field days.

If you would like to become a member, it costs $10. You can email your request a membership on the Contact page. You can join the NRFABCON mailing list without becoming a member.
MISSION
Our aim is to maintain and enhance regional biodiversity values through the appropriate use of fire as a land management and habitat restoration tool.
